The Belief Instinct

Jesse Bering is a bright young neuroscientist and his new book the Belief Instinct; The Psychology of Souls, Destiny and the Meaning of Life is a intriguing look at how our Theory of Mind led to belief in God, Gods, spirits, demons etc. He actually has reasoned out a evolutionary reason for us to hold beliefs, it had survival value for the genes. His deep look into our "soul" via experiment raises some interesting and disturbing questions. You just have to sit back and ponder what he says in the book and the act of pondering forces you to look at your own belief system. The religious will get very squeamish from this book as it totally dismantles their own way of seeing reality. I heartily recommend this book, but I warn you it may upon your reading and comprehending it change your total outlook on life, yours and those around you.
