Mayan Calander

The picture is of El Castillo of the Mayan city of Xunantunich in Belize. We had a 100% Mayan guide. She was very good and we talked about the Mayan calander. She said most of the current clatter about the Mayan calander and the end of the world in 2012 is BS (Basic Speculation). Couple interesting points she brought up. One idea was that space ships came and took the Mayan people back up to home in space at the end of the Mayan civilization. She said if that was true she would not be here. At its height the population of Mayan people in Belize was one and half million. It now is around 10% of the total population of the country. The Mayan civilization collapsed around 900 A.D. This was due to over population, drought and subsequent starvation and wars, not to mention disease. The Mayan Calander turned over several times in the past and the Mayans were not fearful of it. It was just like coming to December 31 on our calander. You just start over with a new calander. And that is what the Mayans did and this is according to a Mayan, one who would know. So the current scare about 2012 makes for a good story and maybe an entertaining movie, but that is about it. Don't sell everything and be stupid, we will still be here after December 21 2012.
