I must recommend this book to all true skeptics. "Mistakes Were Made (but not my me)Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts" by Carol Travris and Elliot Aronson. Carol is a social psychologist, lecturer. Elliot is social psychologist and award winning researcher, teacher and writer. It is a thoughtful and interesting look at cognitive dissonance or self-justification. These are the tools and stuff of us psychologically protecting our own identies and self worth, but also that of dictators, politicians, con artists, alt med practicioners and others justifying their own bad decisions so they can sleep at night. To put the blame on the victim, the co worker the spouse etc also is the thing that ignites divorces, wars, holocosts and other evils in history. It is very insightful and I highly recommend this book. Go to their web site at www.MistakesWereMadeButNotByMe.com.
